EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE, Madurai, January 4
A team of American College professors led by the Principal-in-Charge P.R. Anbudurai met Madurai Collector C. Kamaraj on Tuesday to hand over a memorandum through him to the Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu Government seeking to "immediately intervene and stop the illegal takeover of The American College by Bishop Christopher Asir", according to a press release by the team.
The release specifically sought the immediate withdrawal of the "dubious approval" given to R. Mohan (to act) as principla-in-charge and allow the "rightful" principal P.R.Anbudurai to function freely.
It also urged the government to give protection to senior professors, including Anbudurai and retired principal T. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, as they are "facing serious physical threats from the Bishop".
It added that the State Government should institute a high level inquiry to "investigate the role of the Director of Collegiate Education, the police and other wings of the government in colluding with the Bishop Asir in facilitating the illegal takeover of the college" by him.
They also met K. Chandrashekaran, Jt Director of Education, Madurai, to explain their position, who later told reporters that there has been NO APPROVAL by the department to appoint anyone as principal.
(Then what order did the Bishop's group showed to Police and subsequently broke open the office of the Principal and took over the college with police 'protection'? )
