One of the elected Governing Council members of the American College Faculty Prof. S. Suriyakumar, offers his thanks to the news paper 'Deccan Chronicle' for its continued support to a noble cause.
I am writing this letter to thank your newspaper for the consistent support for our cause to save American College. As you are quiteaware our college is one of a very few Christian colleges in India committed to non sectarian ideals, Christian inclusiveness and excellence in education.
This has been managed by an independent society. It is mischievously propagated by the Bishop that the college is owned by the Church of South India. In the past three years he has been using any means to try and take over the college. He is primarily interested in commercialising education and leasing out the college property.
The present struggle started during the first week of December when the Bishop and his men with the help of police physically took over the campus and illegally installed one of his kin as principal in-charge. The faculty and non teaching staff once again had to come to the public forum to rescue the college from unscrupulous elements. We are like to place on record the services done by Deccan Chronicle by supporting our struggle by publishing
timely and impartial reports in this regard. After all American College is one such victim. Hope to have your continued support.
