Dear Dharumi:
May I use your blog spot to appeal to all concerned with saving American College, the following:
The New Indian Express (Madurai Late City Edition) dated 27th June carries news on page 7 that should interest all concerned about the future of The American College, Madurai.
“The committee on ‘Rejuvenation of Higher Education’ headed by Prof. Yeshpal has said that affiliating system should be eliminated and good quality Colleges could be upgraded to Universities” “1500 colleges may be upgraded to University” “Colleges having rich history strong infrastructure and large body of students could be upgraded” says the news item date lined 26th June from New Delhi. What an opportunity. Let us not forget that though we are an autonomous college we are still affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University.
In the early seventies when UGC chose just fifty Colleges all over India to implement its CoSIP (College Science Improvement Program) The American College was one of that fifty and we were very proud of that.
In the late seventies when just a handful of Colleges (5?) were chosen by the UGC and the State and Central Governments to receive the Autonomous Status for the first time in the educational history of our country The American College was one in that list.
We however missed the next mile stone of getting the status of “College with potential for Excellence” when two other Colleges in the city received that recognition.
Here is an opportunity for the entire Faculty of the College to get united and work as a team and send the proposals at the right time with right contents in the right format to earn this status. Prof. Yeshpal knows The American College from the time he was the UGC Chairman. If he finds that The American College is not in that list of 1500 colleges I am sure he will be disappointed and wondering what has happened to the College. If we miss being one in this 1500 many newer Colleges that were once looking at The American College for leadership may overtake us.
Wake up. Call off all the court cases. The administrator of the College who is now taking care of running the College supervising your work, making admissions and paying your salaries may not be interested in sending such proposals.
Only YOU can do it.
Please act. Act now. Act immediately.
Thanks.
Best wishes ... V.Srinivasan.

thank you V.S.
hope this is not taken as the whining of an "old ghost" of the campus!
A very constructive opinion.
This can be a big milestone in the college history and can eventually change the flavor of the college.
GABRIEL says ... Dear sir,
This is Gabriel .
Hope that you are fine. I was happy indeed to read form your mail the appeal dated on 27-06-09. It was indeed a challenge placed to all the staff and students to work together towards the fame of our college. My only dream now and always is that our Alma mater "Purificatus non Consumptus" should be the driving spirit to purify each and every soul to move towards this goal. May our good lord bless and guide us.
