AN ALUMNUS REACTS ....

*

Dear friends,

Some months ago, friends from Madurai informed me that the American College is going through difficult times and I assumed that minor issues that all organizations experience must have cropped up and in due course they will be solved. Yesterday while talking to my friend Ebi I was told the issues were serious and I must check out the site created for the purpose. I must admit now, after having read the content that it is indeed a war that is going on in the campus -a war between the good and the evil forces. I feel extremely sad that an institution with which every student has a deep affection and love should go through such moments of intense pain and suffering. I was fortunate to be a student of this great institution for five long years. I did both my UG and PG courses between 82 and 87. Even today I take frequent trips down the memory lane enjoying those fine moments, the excellent atmosphere provided to us on campus, the wonderful relationship and rapport that we shared with the faculty – pleasant memories which many institutes even now cannot provide. All this was possible because each one played their role assigned to them- the students, the faculty, the administrators, the church etc. To work efficiently and effectively roles assigned must be stuck to and played accordingly; trouble starts when boundaries are transgressed. Today in the events that have unfolded at the American College there is definitely a move on the part of the Church authorities to interfere in the normal, routine functioning of the college. The Bishop’s attempt at this unnecessary action may be motivated by several reasons. Whatever they are, it is quite evident that the Bishop’s intentions are not praiseworthy as seen from reports published in the media. The entire drama staged on campus by the Bishop’s faction smacks of vulgarity which must be condemned in the strongest way possible. Such power-hungry leaders are a blot to Christianity and they must be shown the door at the earliest. I wish the IPAC relentlessly pursues its objective of saving the institution from the power mongers of the Church, despite the odds placed against them and emerge victoriously soon. All the best!

Dear Sir,
Greetings.
I can undrstand your anger & frustration regarding this issue. Replying to your mail is very simple for me but my University has blocked & filtered all the blog sites. I am reading all the details and spreading the news to all of my friends who had studied in the American College. Some times we al are getting confused with the media reports & news. Regarding the fund raising, the monthly salary employs might find it difficult to contribute a big sum amount, so if we know the total financial need then we can plan accordingly. Most of the business men in madurai & Industrialist studied in The American college, if we can contact those people might be helpful for find raising.
The orkut has many American college alumni profiles, most of them might not know the seriousness of the current problem. Most of them feels that its a fight between 2 individiauls and just an ego problem. if you could define what type of support you would be needing from us will be appreciated.
Few of us in other country and most of them lost touch, if a person in madurai is not actively participating in this issue how can we expect someone who is living some thousand miles away from madurai. We al love our college and we would like to do something for AC.
When I was in MCC, the same issue came but legally they fought against CSI and won the case.
We were in the American college from 1994-1997, unfortunately we were not exposed to internet and email on those days, so very little email ID I have but definitely I can contact some more friends and give u the data base.
I am very sorry for not replying for your last mails, most of your mail goes to spam or bulk, some times i missed it.
Regards
santosh

roops
i appreciate the love for the college.

i am sure there are many like you out there among our alumni. but wonder why they are not coming out to express their concern as you have done.

in our democracy always the greater chunk is the SILENT MAJORITY! but i am sure the silent majority always used to show their might at the right time.
