Solution likely to American College issue

Prelude:

A news item by Shastry V. Mallady appeared in "THE HINDU" (Madurai Edition) with the above mentioned title today (25-06-2011) on page 3.
It bears nothing but a pure gossip made by Bishop's men.
I wonder how can a reputed daily like The Hindu publish something like this! It is misleading the public and adding insult to the faculty and non-teaching staff who are fighting against the illegal interference of the Bishop in The American College administration.
When both the 'warring factions'  have separately met the Higher Education Secretary and the Higher Education Minister, it is not fair getting news from only one (bishop's) side and publishing it! What prevented the reporter to get the news from the 'other faction'  or at least confirming the validity of the 'gossips' made by one group.
There were NO unofficial talks between the two 'warring groups' so far. A gossip from 'a professor' published by The Hindu is highly mischievous.
It is high time that the 'High Power Committee' of the MKU (constituted solely for the purpose of  conducting semester examinations in the American College) takes up action and conduct the examinations and releases the mark sheet for the students, especially for the final year out going students.

Team from college meets Minister, Secretary in Chennai

The vexed American College issue is expected to be resolved within a week by the State government. This assurance was given by Higher Education Secretary R. Kannan when a team from the college met him in Chennai on Friday. The team also met Higher Education Minister P. Palaniappan and apprised him of the crisis faced by the college because of two warring groups.

“The Secretary said that they were fairly acquainted with the American College imbroglio and a decision will be taken soon,” S. Stephen, Dean (Academic Policies) of the college, told The Hindu over phone after the meeting in Chennai. Three representatives from the college had met the Minister and Secretary.

 R. Mohan, Acting Principal, Justin Manohar, Dean (International Exchange), and Mr. Stephen had requested them to intervene in the issue in the interest of students, staff and parents. “The Higher Education Secretary told that ultimately the Chief Minister will take a decision within a week,” said Mr. Stephen.

Appointment with CM

The team also made a formal request seeking an appointment with the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa to apprise her about the issue.

Meanwhile, the college is also likely to see another positive development of unofficial talks between the two warring groups over the conduct of semester examinations for left-out students. “Examination schedule for those students who did not write the examinations may be finalised very soon. We hope to get the cooperation of anti-Bishop group also for conducting the examinations and steps have been initiated in that direction,” a professor said. (a mischievous gossip...)

After the Friday's meeting, there is hope in the college campus that a lasting solution will be arrived at soon and the contentious issue of who should be the college Principal and Secretary will be resolved through the intervention of Chief Minister, Higher Education Minister, and the Principal Secretary to Higher Education.
