The Students Federation of India (SFI) criticised the present management of American College for arbitrarily fixing the semester examination date as April 21.
Addressing the media persons here, SFI district president Kanagaraj said that how the college can go ahead to conduct examinations when the classes were not taken properly for last three months. Without 75% of the classes not taken and attendance not counted, how can the students take up the examinations, he asked.
While, both practicals and internals were completed in all the other colleges, no classes were taken properly in American College, he pointed out.
Condemning the inaction of the Higher Education department and the Collegiate Education over this burning issue, Kanagaraj wondered why the departments were silent over the issue and the High Level Committee formed by the government has not taken any measures.
The violence unleashed in the college campus last week will continue if no actions were taken by the government, he said. As an initial step, professional rowdies inside the campus should be expelled and the Higher Education department should convene parents meeting immediately to discuss further course of action.
The college should be handed over to the Joint Director of Collegiate Education here and the examination dates should be announced only after discussing the possibilities thoroughly with the students.
In the meantime, the Higher Education department should workout some interim measures to conduct classes for some more time before commencing the examinations, Kanagaraj added.
