American College is Madurai's asset and it is also the asset of the poor for whom obtaining quality education is always possible but now it is caught in the midst of “vested interests” trying to commercialise education, said Solomon Pappiah, former professor and alumnus, on Monday.
He was speaking to reporters after affirming his solidarity with a section of staff of the American College who are continuing their sit-in protest over the order issued by the Director of Collegiate Education giving approval for the appointment of R. Mohan as Principal in-charge.
Commenting on the situation, T. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, former Principal, questioned how the locks of the college could be broken open without the presence of revenue officials.
The protesting staff raised slogans condemning the Director of Collegiate Education.
