MADURAI, December 11, 2010

Anticipating “problems from outsiders,” the management of American College here has decided to close the college till January 2.

At around noon on Friday, when a group tried to enter the premises on the issue of taking over the college management, the authorities took the decision to declare holidays and also close the hostel till the college reopens on January 3.

According to college sources, the reason for giving “extended Christmas holidays from today itself was because of the alleged interference of Bishop and his group in the college affairs.”

The Christmas vacation was to have originally started from December 19.

The Governing Council of American College met here on December 6 and it authorised Vice-Principal P. R. Anbudurai to function as Principal in-charge and Secretary of the college as an interim arrangement.

“One group is trying to capture the management of this college. For the safety of our students, we decided to close the college since the same thing happened two years back.

To avoid problems in the campus and to ensure students' safety, we took the decision to declare holidays,” K. Anbunathan, Dean (Self-Financing Courses) and Director of Management Studies, said.
