Dear Dharumi: Happy Deepavali. Any one like you who maintains a blog site would always be thinking what good the blog is and how many read it. This doubt is likely when the number of responses by way of comments is small (never exceeding the magic figure of 10) and many entries getting no comment at all. To make you feel good let me tell you many people seem to read the blog though for reasons best known to them they stop with reading and appreciating it.
On a day like this - Deepavali day - one gets a few telephone calls from friends offering greetings. Interestingly the first greetings call I received this morning was from one of my good old friends and a regular reader of your blog, now in USA. He had timed the call such that I get it at the right time this morning neither too early nor too late. Nice calculation. After the greetings his conversation was about the latest blog on IAS interview. I felt happy. I am sure you will also be happy.
Let me use this occasion to share with you and readers of the blog an interesting "joke" that has appeared in a the recent issue of Dignity Dialogue, a magazine especially for senior citizens. " It comes as good news that Ram gets some part of the land in Ayodhya to settle down. Sita is running a travel agency, Maruti is making cars, Laxman might retire after the series against Australia, Satrunghan has joined BJP, Ravan is already a commercial flop and there is peace in Lanka" (p 39 Nov 2010 issue). Why am I reproducing it here? I am hoping a day will come when American College will settle down like Ram after all the problems it had faced in the last two years or more and I can write a similar piece.

Prof. V. SRINIVASAN EXTENDS A HELP ...
There is an old proverb that when people in a town fight the victim is the temple priest (implying a third person not directly connected with the fight). Let me get back to the problem I had raised some time back. The UGC revised the pay scales of College and University staff. The benefit was extended to retired persons as well. Many persons in many colleges have received the revised pension and a significant amount as arrears. Though a few in American College have got the benefit many are yet to get it for want of necessary action from the College. I have now decided that I will take it up. Any reader of the blog, who is a retired Selection Grade lecturer, who has not received the revised pension please get in touch with me directly srinivasan1936@dataone.in or through the blog. I think I will be able to do something. Best wishes.

Dear Dharumi,
Prof. V.S'. initiative to help get the revised pension and arrears for the unlucky many in the American College, who haven't yet got it, is laudable. Actually, it should have been done much earlier by the officers of the College . It is their moral duty.I hope, at least now, they would realise their obligation to the retired Faculty and take all necessary steps to help them in this regard.
Sincerely,
D.Samuel Lawrence
