GOVERNING COUNCIL ELECTION .....

*

19th APRIL, 2010

At the end of every academic year, one of the most important events would be the election of two faculty representatives for our college  governing council. With the run of matters in the college, this year's election has become all the more important.

In today's elections the following Professors --

Evangelin Manohar
Premsingh
Jeyarani
and Galeb were elected for the Senatus without any opposition.

Dr.P.Kumarasamy  unopposedly got elected as the Faculty Secretary.

For the Governing Council there were 4 candidates for the two vacancies (one representing Sciences and another representing Arts). Profs. John Sekar and Suriyakumar were candidates from our side. From the Bishoporic side there were two professors: Stephen and Muthuraja.

Profs. JOHN SEKAR and SURIYAKUMAR were successfully elected as STAFF REPRESENTATIVES TO OUR COLLEGE GOVERNING COUNCIL.

'SOME EVENTS' ON THE SAME DAY
TWO YEARS BACK ....

 • Around 1.30 p.m. a fax was received and it informed the principal that the illegally convened GC meeting by the Bishop had placed him under suspension.

• Around 6:15 p.m. the Bishop broke open the main gate with many outsiders armed with deadly weapons to ‘install’ the new principal.

• The faculty and students who had gathered in large number put up a stiff resistance. Principal and Secretary called the police. With the knowledge of the police, the bishop brought a bus full of girls from CSI Nursing college and a group orphan children around 10 p.m. to provide a human shield to his gang.

• The bishop and the bursar were seen giving instructions to the police that the principal office was sealed and keys were handed over to them after chasing away the college students out.

• The principal contacted the district collector, who assured him that the principal could do anything that he thought good for the institution and that he would send RDO. He also contacted the ADGP, L&O and Intelligence and the Home Secretary for the protection of the college students and properties.

So much water has flown through in these two years. And we have yet to cross some more important victories. Our destiny is to go on such long struggles before achieving the final moral victory..............

Dear Dharumi:

And here I find the MORE. For surely the Governing Council and the Academic Council are the heart of the resurgence of the College and the return of traditional management.

And so congrastilations for winning yet another skirmish in the long battle, of which you have reminded us all by your recitation of one year ago events.

MANY THANKS!!

At a time when the parting line between the pro-College and the pro-Establishment attitudes remains more blurred than ever—thanks to the struggle that we all put up to defend both the 129 year old College and its 4 year old Establishment—I’m confident that Prof. Suryakumar and Dr. John Sekar, the newly elected faculty representatives to the Governing Council, will be able to see through this blur and work toward serving the larger interests of the college. Congrats!
