American college celebrates 129 {+t} {+h} college day
MADURAI: Kalpakkam and Koodankulam were concrete evidence to the technological advances made by India since independence, said Prabhat Kumar, Project Director, BHAVINI, Department of Atomic Energy, Kalpakkam, while addressing students and staff members of the American College here on the occasion of the 129th College Day celebration on Saturday night.
He said that the country had registered growth in both economy and technology and exhorted students to think positively and have the right attitude in their career. Mr. Prabhat Kumar pointed out that achievers usually came from a modest background as they had clear vision, target and ambition.
Students should rise above region, religion, caste and creed. Mr. Prabhat Kumar gave away 105 academic and sports prizes to students on the occasion.
The programme began with a prayer by Chaplain A.D. Barnabas. The Principal and secretary, T. Chinnaraj Joseph Jaikumar, in his annual report, highlighted the achievements of the institution in 2009-2010 in terms of strengthening resource capabilities, revamping the curriculum in line with emerging global realities, pro-poor policies and mainstreaming the differently-abled students. He also stressed the need to uphold Christian inclusiveness along with academic excellence and commitment to national and social cause.
According to a college press release, G. Rajasekaran, a distinguished alumnus, Adjunct Professor, Institute of Mathematical Sciences, proposed the toast to the college. He emphasised the need for development in arts, science, and humanities. In his toast, he described The American College and Meenakshi Amman Temple as ‘twin jewels of Madurai.' P. R. Anbudurai, Vice-Principal, proposed a vote of thanks.

All the college faculty must stand united and raise protest against a "single fellow" who is still waging a(n) (il)legal battle against the college.
